Projects

Below are examples of the projects that we have for run through the Deakin FreelancingHUB. The clients change each trimester, but this will give you a taste of the type of projects on offer.

Develop an Impact Report

Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children (RIDBC)

RIDBC is Australia’s largest non-government provider of education, therapy and cochlear implant services for children and adults with vision or hearing loss, their families, and the professionals who support them. As a charity, RIDBC relies significantly on fundraising and community support to continue to make a difference in the lives of people with vision or hearing loss. The project focused on the development of an ‘impact report’ for high-end donors showing evidence of the difference the funding has made overall and importantly to specific individuals.

Design and Develop a Web Application

Rowville Neighbourhood Learning Centre

The design and development of a mobile web application “ThinkBiz” that includes 12 easy to follow steps for ‘Olderpreneurs’ (people aged 50+) seeking to start their own business in Victoria.

Business Plan Implementation

City of Greater Bendigo

The City of Greater Bendigo is located in the centre of Victoria, covering almost 3,000 square kilometres. They have a growing population of more than 110,000, and are the state’s third largest economy base in Victoria. An ‘engagement model’ was developed, including strategies for attracting people to relocate to the region. The project involved (1) researching and identifying what are the key sources of information needed when someone is looking to relocate and (2) suggesting approaches for communicating key details.

Develop a Social Media Solution

Hoppers Bowls Club

Hoppers Bowls Club (HBC) was seeking to improve the current media strategy of promoting the social, health, inclusion and entertainment benefits of lawn bowls. A decline in the traditional pennant participation to the social aspect of lawn bowls requires this area to increase with the times. The main objective of the project was to provide HBC with a social media solution that is easy to implement and maintain, maximises reach within the Wyndham community and promotes the many benefits of lawn bowls to the wider Wyndham Community.

“The most important part of the FreelancingHUB is working with a mixed disciplinary group of students, it really taught me what it was like to be in a professional work environment. We were so glad our work was able to make a positive change for the client.”

Matt Kloszynski, Bachelor of Media and Communications (Marketing)

“Having previously never worked with a client before, I have been challenged in ways that have enriched my studies and pushed me to work at gaining independence in a professional work environment.”

Sarah Young, Bachelor of Creative Arts (Animation and Motion Capture)

“I loved meeting new people, being challenged across the duration of the placement, meeting client needs and changing perspectives and research appropriately, as well as working as part of a likeminded team who produced something to be really proud of in the end!”

Rebecca, Bachelor of Creative Arts (Animation and Motion Capture)

“It’s a fantastic way to gain experience in a professional setting, and put into practice your past experiences and academic knowledge. It has given me a new look into the types of job environments and projects I would love to pursue in the future. Having a project team and task that you are engaged in makes the task so much more enjoyable and rewarding.”

Alexander, Eildon Park Tennis Club
