The DeakinTALENT FreelancingHUB is an exciting and innovative work-integrated learning initiative designed to develop work-ready graduates. The FreelancingHUB offers group-based internship placements within a cross-disciplinary, cross-cultural teams developing a solution for a not-for-profit or community organisation. In addition to developing key employability skills such as communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking, the HUB gives interns an opportunity to experience the shared economy of co-located work places and learn freelancing.
Each Trimester the DeakinTALENT FreelancingHUB hosts between 8-10 projects for community organisations, not-for-profits and/or social enterprises and placements within the project teams are open to students across all study areas and Campuses including the Cloud. Each project team is assigned an experienced mentor and project manager, and regular client interaction is facilitated by the FreelancingHUB.
To be eligible for an internship placement within the FreelancingHUB you need to have completed at least 6 units/credit points of study and have an elective available to fit a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) unit.

“At a normal internship you have to work alone but at the Hub you get to work in this really great group with other students from all different faculties. You learn a lot from the other people in your group. It was a very intensive 12 weeks of work. I learnt lots of new skills and made some professional contacts. It was hard work but it was very worthwhile and I’m lucky to have had this experience. ”
